Prayerexaminer.com debuts nationally today

Welcome to the first Prayer Examiner column. My name is Richard Beattie and you may read my other columns from Denver Evangelical, Media, and Culture, and Front Range Examiner. I hope to make the power of prayer relevant to your life, our culture and throughout the world. If a prayer is uttered in New York for Haiti it super-naturally passes through areas where food and supllies sadly are not.

Praying scripture

My prayer for this week was to take Hebrews 4 and pray it by making it a personal reflection and conversation with God.

Praise:

I gave God thanks and praise for his creation and also gave thanks for seeing and understanding “the value of the Gospel.” (Hebrews 4:1) His very word was heard and He spoke into actuality creation of this world. Hebrews 4 makes reference to the people who will never enter into that 7th day of rest “because of unbeief, and disobedience.” (Hebrews 4:6-7)

Admit/Request:

I confess that I do not always enter into rest as the Israelites failed to do. That shows disobedience and lack of faith and so I ask God for that kind of faith that allows me to find rest in His Word.” “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and narrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Thanks

I thank the Lord for the friends and family that I have who will hold me accountable for my thoughts and my words, what I have done and what I fail to do. “Nothing in creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” This is my prayer where we can “approach the throne with confidence, so we may receive mercy and find grace in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4)

Heart of a psalmist

I have begun to pray scripture before this but not as much as I have wanted. This gives me ample opportunity to get into a good habbit of praying scripture. One great thing is after I became I believer I started incorporating scripture in my music and this helped to sing-out the scripture was helped in memorization too.

Talking with God

From a form of request and conversation with God, answers that do not come wind up being heard from God’s word while praying scripture. When you pray scripture you also have a better chance to follow God’s will with clarity and in confidence that His word addresses all our needs.

Does this form of praying inspire you? I hope it does. Right now I will say I will do it, and I will ask my accountabilty partners and family to hold me to it. Yes I am inspired and I desire to pray scripture. As a writer the best way for me to do this is to actually write the prayer down while reading the verse. I often speak what I write while editing and rewriting and prayer is quite like that. So there! I’m not talking to myself! Really!

Lets use this platform to talk about prayer, our motives, and our approaches daily. Let me know how we can pray for you.
