After Further Review-God Speaks
Many of our readers and listeners are aware of the concepts behind “The Five Love Languages,” the classic by Dr. Gary Chapman. The original book almost thirty years old brought the concept that everyone has at least one love language that they respond to and speak. But did you know that God-himself not only speaks your love language- he wrote it inside of you?
From the start of the the bestseller “God Speaks Your Love Language” Chapman gives a sampling. As many of my readers know I tell people that evangelism is not religion-it is a relationship. This book cements that concept that God wants to be in relationship with us. “Ones search for God,” Chapman writes, “is influenced by culture. If our culture says, “This is the way to God,” then we tend to pursue accordingly.” But love is a matter of the heart, the soul-not ritual or religion.”
Its all about you-and that’s OK
Many people need words of affirmation to help them feel loved. Others of us want and need time, and despite what many believe quantity counts, but quality time rules. maybe you like giving and receiving gifts and that is your love language. Then there is the act and acts of service and the gift of physical touch. do you identify with 1 or more, and maybe all of these love languages. Do you wonder how God speaks these very personal languages in your life?
How does God speak?
Dr. Chapman writes that there is a close link to our spiritual language-whatever the five you identify with. Your primary love language is from God and created in you as clear as your gifting, talents and calling! God can affirm us through others and words that come to you in times when you need his gift of language. God has time for us-indefinite time- He wants to spend time in the midst of chaos, or traffic, or in the mountains, or by the sea- God created quality time and you are on his schedule.
Nature
God gives gifts from the sunrise to the sunset- if you are looking for gifts from God-you would not be able to count all of it. So then what about service. Can god serve you? Perhaps it is in your own acts of service. Have you ever given of your time, talent, and treasure and wound up being rewarded with real blessing? That’s God talking your language and He knows it well. Finally Chapman gets in to physical touch and if you read the Bible, you will find a wealth of examples from God the Father and his plan of creativity and design, Jesus the Son and his approach of healing and sacrifice, and then the touch of the Holy Spirit, and how people moved, motivated and inspired are touched by the power. Mind-heart and prayer as well as motive-approach- and action, which includes touch. Jesus himself is a physical manifestation of God’s touch and that continues on today.
Gary Chapman has written the quintessential book of sensory love languages. He builds the case of God wanting to communicate with His people, and knowing what individual ways motivate us. The essence of that creative spirit built into our lives is ready to be tapped. This book is foundational in stepping into our calling and relationship with the only true God.
