Bible provides headlines

In reviewing the Bible in a year programs I wanted to have a little more intense application in this new decade. I found it in a read that is not a year, 6 months, but instead 12 pages a day for 90 days. Yet for my purpose and yours it is not enough! As we start this new year I propose an intense “Living it out” model of intense reading and intense action! We don’t need another program to influence media and impact the culture we need active church planting and people living out Biblical truth in our neighborhoods, our schools, through our political process and in the media. Last year in The Denver Evangelical Examiner I asked some pretty pointed questions of certain groups in our community that were based on motive, approach and prayer. While the gay population complained, the non-believers cried “foul” and the evangelicals did not respond very much- we did have a conversation about lifestyle and how to reach out to people who are different from us. When I reviewed what I wanted to write about for this year it occurred to me that living out the Bible we study in Denver is paramount to continuing true outreach to a community that is dying of thirst.

Day 1- Creation

From Genesis 1-15 we are brought into the creative process of the creator and as a media consultant, creative director, and journalist I want to tap into that process of imitating the Creator in that process. That is the first step in living it out in my community, through my work, in my church and in my family life. I challenge all of you to start reading at the beginning, Genesis 1. This is where we separate dark from light, we rejoice in the sunrise and give praise that we are part of creation everyday! We are also stewards of that creation as we are stewards of God’s plan for man and woman, marriage and family. When God sees that it is not good for man to be alone- he creates woman- from the first man’s rib. God sees that man alone is not good and so He creates a suitable mate-in woman.

God’s plan for marriage

There we find the place where God Himself declares that man and woman are one. God’s plan for marriage is between one man and one woman. Marriage is part of the “creative process” in the purest sense. So are these elements-land, water, sky, sun, moon and stars. We are handed a canvas for the painter, an empty page for the writer, scales, and chords for the composer, and relationships for the community! But evil lurks right outside our studio door.
